YOU Hold a Piece of the Parkinson's Puzzle

May 30, 2020

Researchers at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Calgary, led by Dr. Martino are proposing a study in collaboration with the University of Genova, Italy and the KU Leuven University, Belgium to investigate new, non-invasive ways to treat gait problems in people with Parkinson disease....and they need OUR help!

Parkinson Association is looking for People with Parkinson disease (PWP) and Care Partners of People with Parkinson disease to join us in one (1) of three (3)  ZOOM group discussions with Dr. Martino and his team.  Participants will be asked to share their insight and experiences on gait and balance problems in people with Parkinson's; it's impact on daily routine and the emotional and social impact it has had. They will also be looking for input on the best ways to assess gait and balance problems and on how new technologies may help assess and treat these issues.

Who can participate:

  • People with Parkinson disease who are experiencing ANY level (mild to severe) of gait and/or balance issues;
  • Care Partners of People with Parkinson disease who are experiencing ANY level (mild to severe) of gait and/or balance issues;
  • You do NOT have to -- be a part of a couple to participate OR participate as a couple (ie: a Care Partner can participate without their PWP);
  • There are NO restrictions on where you live - these discussions will take place over ZOOM!

What is required of participants:

  • Register for and attend one (1) - approximately 90 minute ZOOM group discussion (register below);
  • Discuss and answer questions about your experiences with gait and balance issues and their impact on YOUR life

We are aiming to keep groups on the smaller side to ensure everyone gets a chance to participate in the discussion.  If there are many people who want to participate we will look to add additional sessions.  If an EVENING (after 5PM) session would work better for you please choose that option and further details will be provided.  Click on one of the options below to register - please provide your name and indicate whether you are a Person with Parkinson's or a Care Partner.
