Parkinson Association of Alberta’s Call for Nominations

February 2, 2018

Parkinson Association of Alberta's (PAA) Nominating Committee is calling for nominations of candidates for the PAA Board of Directors.  All Directors will be elected for a two (2) year term (May 26, 2018 AGM – AGM 2020).

We provide a variety of services across the province to help enhance the lives of those with Parkinson disease (PD).  Among those many services are programs such as movement and art classes, support groups and counselling services.  We also play a strong advocacy role and raise money that funds research looking to find a cure for PD.

Our Mission:

Parkinson Association of Alberta is the voice of Albertans and their families living with Parkinson disease.  Our purpose is to ease the burden through advocacy, education, client services and find a cure through research.

What We Need:

We are currently seeking skilled, motivated people to join our Board of Directors this May.  We will be looking for two and possibly more new members.  The board is currently comprised of 15 members from across the province.  As a province wide organization regional representation is important to us.  The majority of our meetings are via conference call so please don't take yourself out of consideration just because you don't live in Calgary or Edmonton.

The Parkinson Association of Alberta Board is a governance board that sets strategic policy and provides oversight to ensure that our senior management has the direction, resources and support necessary to fulfill PAA's mission.  The Board meets every two months and more often as needed.  In addition to the Board meetings we have a handful of committees and encourage all members to take part.  Our members have a wide range of skills and experience and we are especially looking for people who can contribute skills in the areas of fundraising, technology, strategic planning and impact measurement.  Prior non-profit or corporate board experience is also a huge asset.

Commitment & Involvement:

  • $25 membership fee per annum
  • 3-6 in-person or teleconference meetings
  • Participation on one (1) Board Committee
