Comparing musical competency and appetency in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and the general population

The aim of the study is to assess musical competency and appetency in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. We will compare these data with norms for the neurotypical population, estimate whether musical skills have changed since diagnosis, and examine possible relationships between musical measures and communication disorder profiles.
These results will enable speech therapists to define the appropriateness of using music therapy with these patients.

Who is eligible to participate in the study?

People with Parkinson Disease, who are considered capable of giving their own consent to participate in the research, and those who have a close relative willing to complete a questionnaire about them.

What is required of the participants?

Participants will be asked to take part in a virtual interview with a researcher lasting between 1 to 2 hours. This interview will consist of musical tests, as well as tests to document their communication skills.
There will be a questionnaire about musical skills in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease that one of their relatives will be asked to fill out online.
