Examining the contribution of executive function to motor imagery ability in people with Parkinson’s Disease

The aim of this study is to examine how different thinking skills contribute to the ability to imagine movements in Parkinson’s Disease and people over 50. The information will help researchers better understand how Parkinson’s Disease affects the ability of individuals to plan and control their movements.

Who is eligible to participate in the study?

If you have Parkinson’s Disease, you are eligible for the study if you:

  • Were aged 50 or older at the time of your PD diagnosis
  • Have NOT received deep brain stimulation
  • Do NOT have moderate to severe cognitive impairment
  • Are independent in all activities of daily living, including walking

Controls aged 50 years and older with no neurological disorders.

What is required of the participants?

This study involves:

  • Two in person meetings (around two hours each)
  • The meetings can take place in any of the following cities: Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, or Red Deer
  • The meetings will involve an assessment of mood, thinking, motor function, and the ability to imagine movements
