Technology for Swallowing Exercises in Parkinson’s Disease: A Usability Study

This is a usability study, aiming to test a non-invasive technology that is designed to help with swallowing therapy. 

The main objective of this study is to gain insights into the usability of the technology by people with Parkinson’s Disease by testing the effectiveness and efficacy of their interaction with the technology. 

We also aim to explore users’ satisfaction, specific needs, and issues (if any) around their use of the technology.

Who is eligible to participate in the study?

  • 18 years or older.
  • Living or willing to travel to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
  • Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
  • This study does not cover Parkinson-plus syndromes: Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), Multiple system atrophy (MSA), Cortical-basal ganglionic degeneration (CBGD), Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
  • This study does not cover people with Parkinson’s Disease who have dementia or severe cognitive impairment.

What is required of the participants?

  • Are you a person living with Parkinson’s Disease?
  • We are looking for people to test our non-invasive technology
  • We would like your help to try using our technology for swallowing therapy in people with Parkinson’s Disease
  • You will take part in one session (in Edmonton) to test the technology and provide your feedback.
